Things to Do in Omori

Omori is an area located in Ota City just south of the Shinagawa area. While modern-day Omori has been built up mostly on reclaimed land, it was once an area that prospered through seaweed harvesting. Although the area has a more modern and metropolitan feel these days, you can still find many shrines in the area, and Shinto festivals are a common sight especially during the summer months.

Apart from religious festivals, there are many exciting places that Omori has to offer, here are some recommendations for your visit or stay in the area.

Coffee House Rouen

Located less than five minutes from Omori Station at Coffee House Rouen you can find a nostalgic and retro style coffee house that has been around for 30 years. This specialty coffee house has about 80 coffee blends on the menu including a selection of black teas. They also offer an assortment of cakes and breads that you can get to go with your coffee. The coffee house has lots of space, so you are sure to find a seat. A private meeting room is also available upon request.

Heiwa no Mori Park Field Athletic Course

The Heiwa no Mori Park is great for a family day out. There is a Field Athletic Course with over 40 different obstacles at different challenge levels ranging from climbing nets, scaling high walls to crossing swinging bridges and sliding on zip lines. Each obstacle is associated with a historical event or a name of a place in Ota, allowing the kids to learn about the city while they play. There is even a section of the course that focuses on obstacles over water for a next-level challenge, including paddling your way across the pond on a standing paddle boat. Just make sure to prepare to bring an extra pair of clothes for changing on the day, as you are likely to get wet.

While the park’s obstacles are designed for elementary age children and above, there is a small section just outside the Field Athletic Course that offers younger children the opportunity to play and test their skills on a collection of simple wood and rope obstacles. The park is located about ten minutes walk from Heiwajima Station on the Keihin Kyuko Line.

• Hours: The park is open from 9:30 AM until 4:30 PM, with the last entrance at 3:00 PM.
• Closed on Mondays (except holidays), New Year holiday season, bad weather days and the day after depending on field condition.
• Entry Fee: Entry to the park and the infant athletic field is free, however, the Field Athletic Course is ¥360 for adults and ¥100 for children.

Heiwajima Onsen

One of the best things about Japan is the public baths and natural hot springs (onsens), and while usually, you find them in the mountain or countryside areas, Ota City surprisingly boasts the most bathhouses in the whole of Tokyo.

The great thing about Tennen Onsen Heiwajima is that it is open 24/7, all year round, and offers a variety of baths, saunas, and spa treatments. The perfect place to go to end a day or spend the day while in Omori.

After the spa, they have a restaurant and relaxation spaces where you can continue to recover and refresh from all the walking you likely would have been doing around the city. The onsen has a convenient 100 yen shuttle bus from either Omori Station or Heiwajima Station.
