If you're a fan of anything curry related, the Yokosuka Curry Festival is an event you simply can't miss. This isn't just your standard curry over rice event, either – although there's plenty of that available. You'll also find currypan (curry-filled, deep-fried bread), curry dogs, curry yakisoba (fried noodles), and plenty more.
Yokosuka is a port city home to various maritime operations, and curry has been a staple dish on Japanese navy ships for some time - so it's quite fitting for an event of this nature to be held in this part of Japan.
Getting there
The Yokosuka Curry Festival takes place at Verny Park (1-1 Shioiri-cho, Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture 238-0042), which is about a 15-minute walk from Yokosuka-Chuo Station.
For those arriving by car, limited parking is available nearby, with spaces for up to 45 vehicles. Parking fees are ¥410 for the first hour, ¥210 for each additional 30 minutes (up to two hours), and ¥100 per hour thereafter.
