If you're going to be in Nikko from April to November, experience a 40-minute dynamic boat ride gliding through the Kinugawa River. The beautiful gorge carved by mother nature offers beautiful scenery that may include cherry blossoms, wisteria or maple, depending on the time of year. Be prepared to remove your shoes before being seated on tatami mats. A free shuttle bus is offered from Kinugawa Onsen Ropeway or take a 3-minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. For advance bookings & rates, visit here for Japanese and here for English.

What do you see? The rock formation on the right is called "Zouiwa" (Elephant rock).

Do you see the Wisteria? The branches in full bloom were shaped liked a heart.

Tateiwa (Shield Rock). The enormity of some of these rock formations are just incredible! To get a better sense of size, find the river boat guide pictured at the bottom.

Up ahead is the suspension bridge overlooking the Kinugawa River. Wave hello to passersby!
